On 27 October 2009, Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Asif J. Chaudhry and Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) Rector Andrei Galben dedicated the American Room at the university on October 27. The U.S. Embassy donated framed posters of iconic American scenes to decorate the room and also provided literature about the U.S. and about educational opportunities. As part of the ceremony, an employee of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau played well-known songs on his guitar, including Welcome to the Hotel California. Students in attendance joined him in singing along.
