On Thursday, February 20, H.E. YAMADA Yoichiro, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, paid an official visit to ULIM. During his visit, he met with the university leadership, including Rector, Associate Professor Dr. Ilian Galben, and Vice-Rector for International Relations, Associate Professor Dr. Valentina Ciumacenco.
The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest in the academic, educational, and cultural fields. Both parties expressed their shared desire to strengthen cooperation between ULIM and the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of establishing mutually beneficial collaborations with higher education institutions in Japan through the Embassy, aiming to facilitate student and faculty exchanges, curriculum development, the promotion of the Japanese language and culture, and the implementation of joint research projects.
Furthermore, the discussions included an exchange of views on global developments. His Excellency provided an insightful perspective on the European integration process, drawing comparisons between Japan’s experience and current global challenges. Topics such as economic, political, and security challenges facing the world in the 2020s were also addressed.
Rector Ilian Galben expressed his admiration for the Japanese people and extended his congratulations on the occasion of Japan’s National Day, which will be celebrated on February 23, marking the 65th anniversary of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito.
During the visit, both parties agreed to intensify academic exchanges and plan future meetings and collaborations to support mutual educational and cultural development. His Excellency also expressed his willingness to support a series of public lectures at ULIM on topics of general interest in the near future.
The visit of the distinguished guest reaffirmed the commitment of the Free International University of Moldova to promoting innovation, excellence, and international cooperation, providing a strong platform for the development of joint projects and lasting connections between Moldova and Japan.
