The Free International University of Moldova had the honor of hosting a welcome meeting on September 10 for American student Gabriel Kelly, along with representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău, including Ms. Joanne Kramb, Cultural and Education Attaché, and representatives of the host university. Present were Valentina Ciumacenco, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Rodica Panța, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science, and Journalism, and Ludmila Coadă, Coordinator of the European Studies Center.

The primary purpose of the meeting was the official introduction of Mr. Gabriel Kelly, a Fulbright research student from the United States, affiliated with George Washington University, D.C. Mr. Kelly will conduct research at the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science, and Journalism on the topic “Generational Change and Civil Society Participation in Post-Communist Europe.”

During the discussions, topics related to Mr. Kelly’s integration into ULIM’s academic environment were addressed, along with ways in which this collaboration will contribute to enriching the academic experience and research for all involved parties. The faculty leadership expressed their commitment to supporting the Fulbright scholar’s integration and success, emphasizing the importance of international exchange and academic collaboration.

Representatives of the U.S. Embassy highly valued the bilateral cooperation and thanked ULIM’s leadership for the effective partnership, outlining elements of the activity program that will be implemented at ULIM by the scholar, with a view to strengthening mutually beneficial collaborative relations.

ULIM’s Vice-Rector, Dr. Valentina Ciumacenco, expressed gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the academic community of the Free International University of Moldova to the U.S. Embassy for its effective collaboration with ULIM, which has materialized through several joint projects, including support for academic mobility for students and professors with U.S. universities such as the University of Illinois, Eastern Virginia University, the University of Texas, New York College, and the University of South Florida, with whom our institution continues to maintain strong cooperative relationships.

Other representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău also attended the Fulbright scholar’s welcome event, including Irina Colin, Professional Programs Coordinator, and Maria Crijanovschi, Professional Exchanges Coordinator. This meeting marked the continuation of the Fulbright program at ULIM and provided a key opportunity for establishing a productive working relationship between the institutions.
